Stripe in Ghana.

Short answer: Stripe does not onboard Ghana-based accounts in 2026. If a guide tells you otherwise it predates Stripe's current country list. What does work: local processors (Paystack, Flutterwave), direct rails for invoices, and — for a subset of freelancers — the US-LLC route. Here is what each costs.

Most Ghanaian freelancers do not need Stripe at all. Stripe solves card checkout for SaaS and e-commerce. If you are invoicing US clients for services, a USD invoice through Wise or Grey (0.90-2.00% band) is cheaper than any card processor and needs no company. The LLC route exists for those who need US-side tooling, not as a default.

Who actually needs a US payment processor.

You need card checkout if you sell a product with one-click purchase — a course, a template pack, a subscription. You need a USD invoice if you sell services to a client who approves a scope and pays on terms. Confusing the two is how freelancers end up paying 3.9% card fees for what should have been a bank transfer.

For invoices: Wise USD details (0.90-1.5% effective) or Grey (1.95-2.00%) receive US ACH at a fraction of card-processor cost. Your client's AP department pays bills by ACH — they will not miss the "Buy now" button. The invoice template includes the wire/ACH instruction block.

For card checkout from Ghana today: Paystack (1.5% local cards, 3.9% international — published rates, verify) and Flutterwave (Ghana-headquartered, multi-rail including MoMo) are the functional options. The US-LLC + Stripe Atlas path ($500 setup + ~$100/yr registered agent + tax filings) is rational when US-side tooling is a growth constraint — not as a fee optimization. Full LLC trade-off here.

Questions.

Can I use Stripe in Ghana with a US LLC?

Yes — a US LLC can open a Stripe account, which is the basis of the Stripe Atlas route ($500 setup). But most freelancers invoicing clients do not need card checkout at all; a USD invoice via Wise or Grey is cheaper. Only pursue the LLC if you sell productized one-click purchases.

What does Paystack charge for international payments from Ghana?

Paystack's published rates: 1.5% on local cards (capped) and 3.9% on international cards. Verify on their pricing page — caps and currency options change. For USD client invoices, a bank rail beats card rates.

Is Flutterwave available in Ghana?

Yes — Flutterwave is Ghana-headquartered and serves GH merchants with cards, bank transfer and mobile money collection. Fee schedule varies by rail and volume; check their published pricing for current numbers.

Do US clients care that I do not have Stripe?

No. US businesses pay freelancers by ACH, wire or check — Stripe is a consumer/merchant checkout tool, not a freelancer payment method. A clean USD invoice with ACH instructions is the professional norm.
