Grey, Raenest, Cleva, LemFi.

Four fintechs issuing African freelancers US account details. All four collapse the SWIFT leg. They differ on country coverage, cashout mechanics and the FX spread — which is where the real cost lives. Here is the honest comparison; the calculator holds the fee bands.

We take no affiliate cut on any rail named here and hold no sponsored rankings. Bands come from published schedules and the corridor model in the calculator (verified Oct 2026). The honest answer to "which is best" is: whichever sits at the low end of the band for your corridor and cashout method — that differs by country. Compute yours instead of trusting a ranking.

What "newer rail" actually means.

Each of these companies issues US bank details in your name. Your client pays a domestic ACH transfer — no wire, no correspondent banks, no $15-60 flats. The dollars sit in a virtual balance; you convert to local currency (GHS, NGN, KES) on your schedule. That is the shared primitive. Everything else — card issuance, savings features, multi-currency, batch payouts — is product surface, not the core fee math.

Country coverage is the first filter. Grey, Raenest and LemFi all serve GH, NG and KE. Cleva is Nigeria-first. If you are in Ghana or Kenya, Cleva is off the table today — check current availability on each provider's site before signing up, because coverage changes quarter to quarter.

The FX spread is the second filter, and it is invisible on the landing page. Two providers can quote zero fees and differ by 2% on the rate. Always compare against the mid-market reference rate for your pair at the moment of conversion. Provider fee schedules: Grey publishes a conversion-fee schedule; Raenest, Cleva and LemFi publish corridor rates on request or in-app. The calculator's 2-7% corridor band reflects this spread range — your position inside the band is your negotiation with the interface, not with us.

Rankings lie. Bands don't.

Questions.

Is Grey cheaper than Payoneer for African freelancers?

On the GH corridor Grey's 1.95-2.00% band beats Payoneer's up-to-3.15%. On other corridors verify — both publish schedules, and Payoneer's marketplace integration still wins for Fiverr/Upwork receiving where a direct ACH is not available.

Does Cleva work in Ghana or Kenya?

Cleva is Nigeria-first. Grey, Raenest and LemFi serve GH, NG and KE. Verify current coverage on each provider's site — availability changes.

Are these rails safe for large client payments?

They are licensed fintechs, not banks — deposits may not carry bank-level deposit insurance. For large or recurring balances, spread across providers or move settled funds to a bank quickly. Read each provider's terms on safeguarding.

Can these rails receive from Fiverr or Upwork?

Marketplace platforms pay via their own payout partners (usually Payoneer or PayPal). Newer rails cannot replace the platform's withdrawal endpoint — they replace the SWIFT/bank leg for direct client invoices. For Fiverr/Upwork, the rail fix is stage two: bill the client off-platform through a virtual account.
