Off the platform, on the invoice.
Fiverr's 20% is not a fee you optimize — it is a fee you remove by changing where the client finds you. This is the stage-two system: the four channels that work from Africa, the scripts that book calls, the pricing that anchors USD, and the paperwork that makes a US company comfortable paying you directly. Median recovery: $2,436 a year.
Why stage two is the big number.
The four channels that work from GH, NG, KE.
One — warm market inside the platform. Every satisfied Fiverr/Upwork buyer with ongoing work is a direct-billing candidate. After delivery, mention you take direct contracts for repeat work at a better rate for both sides — you save the commission, they save the platform markup. This is the highest-conversion channel and the one most freelancers skip out of fear. Platforms mediate the relationship, not the person.
Two — cold email to US companies. Targeted lists (job boards, directories, tech stacks), a two-sentence problem statement, one proof artifact, one calendar link. CAN-SPAM requires a physical address and working opt-out in every cold email — include both, it costs nothing and it is the law where your prospect sits. Full scripts with templates.
Three — LinkedIn outbound. Positioning first (headline says who you help, not "freelancer"), then connection with a note, then a value-first message — never a pitch in the first message. Message templates here. Four — referrals inside your niche: one great client knows three peers with the same problem. Ask at delivery, not six months later.
All four feed the same back office: a USD invoice (template), a contract (pack), W-8BEN ready for US clients (explained), and a payout rail that costs 0.90-7.5% instead of 22-28% (your band in the calculator).
Stage one, then stage two.
Switch the rail today ($270 back, 20 seconds). Run the off-platform system this month ($2,436 back). The Kit contains both: scripts, invoice, contract, rate card. $19 founding through Dec 31, 14-day refund.
Questions.
Is it against Fiverr's terms to talk to buyers off-platform?
Circumventing the platform inside the platform (messaging contact details to avoid fees) violates Fiverr/Upwork terms and can close your account. Building a parallel client pipeline — your own site, LinkedIn, cold email — is normal business and what the stage-two system teaches. Read current terms; we do not advise rule-breaking.
How long does it take to replace Fiverr income directly?
Stage one (rail) is immediate. Stage two depends on volume of outreach and niche; most freelancers in our model land the first direct repeat client within 4-8 weeks of consistent outreach, then it compounds — direct clients renegotiate less than platform algos.
Do US clients hire freelancers in Ghana, Nigeria or Kenya directly?
Yes — remote hiring across borders is normal; the friction is payment rails and trust, both solvable. USD virtual accounts/wire remove the payment friction; contracts, US-hour overlap and proof artifacts remove the trust friction. See the bias-proof trust stack page.
What is the 0% commission alternative to Fiverr?
Contra operates a 0% commission freelance marketplace model; your own direct invoices are effectively 0-2% via Wise/Grey rails. Platform alternatives page compares vetted options (Toptal, Arc, Lemon.io) with their trade-offs.
